This was the prototype and development car built in 1992 and the one that has the most significant race history. Originally painted red, it is the car that was used for the factory promotional photos. The car was raced by Joest in two races of the German ADAC GT series in 1993, while the team was waiting for the factory to complete their ordered Turbo RS (Number 4).
The car was then painted yellow and prepped to race at Le Mans in 1994. It is the only 968 ever to compete in that historic race. It ran in the GT2 class and completed 84 laps before retiring due to an accident. It raced as car #58, driven by Thomas Bscher, Lindsay Owen-Jones and John Neilson.
In December of 1994, the car was purchased from Thomas Bscher by Lloyd Hawkins and Dennis Boada, and brought to the United States. Still in it's "Le Mans" yellow paint, it was raced at the Sebring 12 hour race in March of 1995 and also at Road Atlanta in April of that year. David Murry raced the car at Road Atlanta in 1996 and was leading the with only 4 laps remaining when a header cracked and he lost boost.
Since then, the car has been restored and returned to it's original red color and has mostly raced in Porsche Club events.
Extensive development has been done to the car with horsepower reaching 450 HP and torque at 498 @2750 RPM and 1.3 bar boost.
The car currently resides in Lousiana, USA.
